Adele + Dillan’s Studio Newborn Shoot

Photo of newborn baby with 3 year old sister

Kylo came into the studio as a brand-new baby, with a busy three-year-old big sister in tow. We kicked things off with a few gorgeous sibling photos while everyone was still feeling good.

From there, we took things slowly — some photos with Mum, some with Dad, then Mum and Dad together with Kylo, and finally the whole family. No rushing, no pressure, just a calm, guided session with plenty of flexibility and little breaks when needed.

Older sister Carter was so gentle with her baby brother and when she needed a little break, was happy to play with the barbie dolls and blocks that I have available in my studio toybox.

One of my favourite images from this session is Kylo on the beanbag, with the hands of his whole family gently holding his tiny hands and feet. It’s such a simple photo, but it says so much.

Mum wore a dress from my client wardrobe (so that’s one less stress for you working out what to wear) and Kylo was snug in a wee mocha knit romper. I have a selection of rompers and blankets which are all available for use in your session.

I know how vulnerable new Mums can feel at this stage after having a baby — my own kids are grown now, but I remember it clearly — which is why I give lots of direction and keep things easy. Before-hand I send you a full Prep Guide explaining how everything works on the day. It has a few little tips like doing your nails and popping on a bit of mascara which can make a big difference in close-ups. On the day I will give you full guidance on what to do and will always pose you in a way that feels comfortable (and kind when you’re running on very little sleep).

As Mum later shared, “I can not recommend Tracey enough! She made our first family photos experience amazing! She made us all feel super comfortable and less nervous. With a toddler and a new born you never know how things will go and Tracey handled it all so well! I’m so happy with our photos and can’t thank you enough!”

That’s always the goal for me: a session that feels manageable in the moment, and photos you’ll be so glad you made time for later.

Having a baby this year?

When you’re around 20 weeks pregnant, that’s a great time to start thinking about booking your maternity and/or newborn sessions. Maternity shoots are ideally done around 30 weeks and newborn shoots are typically done between 8 – 12 days. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions per month so that I have the flexibility to move dates around if your baby comes either earlier or later than planned.
